Buffy Baddies Back Together
Tuesday, February 13, 2001

This Valentine's Day, like hopeless romantics the world over, the Scooby gang of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be preoccupied with hearts and flowers. But since tonight's installment reunites batty Drusilla (Juliet Landau) with her progeny, the incorrigible Spike (James Marsters), the hearts probably will be ripped out of couples' chests, and the flowers stolen from gravesites. In recognition of this rare moment that Hallmark never anticipated, TV Guide Online asked our favorite femme fatale how the undead keep their love alive. — Charlie Mason

TV Guide Online: Do vampires celebrate Valentine's Day?
Juliet Landau: They do, actually, but it's kind of unexpected what happens in the episode. It becomes sort of a love triangle between Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Spike and myself.

TVGO: How does Drusilla take the news that her old flame is hot for the Slayer?
JL: Well, the two of us have been together for over 100 years, so it's sort of like we get to explore all the levels of love relationships times 100. And my reactions aren't ever necessarily what you'd expect.

TVGO: Drusilla could hardly be steamed — after all, she cheated on Spike first.
JL: That's true. But really, the reason that she ran off with the chaos demon is [that] she felt Spike had Buffy, Buffy, Buffy on the brain. So her betrayal stemmed from his, in a way.

TVGO: Speaking of betrayal, after Drusilla got burned — literally — by her sire, Angel (on his spinoff of the same name), I was surprised to see her return to Buffy before getting even.
JL: I think she'll probably go back. I think she went to Spike because she was feeling nostalgic, and he's always been her ally. No matter what, they will always share a bond — she made him the vampire that he is today.

TVGO: Buffy's been eager to stake Drusilla since she killed imported Slayer Kendra back in the second season. Do Buffy and Dru finally get to duke it out?
JL: I don't know if I'm allowed to give it away... but I think I can say that I got to work with Sarah the most that I ever have on this episode.

TVGO: Talking hypothetically, if Spike had to make a choice between saving Drusilla's neck and Buffy's, whose would he pick?
JL: Personally, I would hope that he'd choose Dru. But he'd probably find a way to save them both. He's got the hero in him.
