'Buffy' Creator Unleashes 'Fray'

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Joss Whedon, creator and executive producer
of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," is bringing a slayer to
comic book-reading masses in the form of "Fray."
Hitting shelves on June 6, "Fray," which will be released
under the Dark Horse comic series banner, is a spin-off of "Buffy."
Set in the shadier side of Manhattan, the story will follow the
adventures of a future slayer and professional thief.
"I wanted to do somebody who was different from 'Buffy,'"
Whedon told TV Guide. "The idea of magic is just completely
foreign to her. She's just a girl who has no idea she's the slayer."
"I've always wanted to write comic books," adds Whedon.
"And I'm hoping some 'Buffy' fans who've never really explored
comic books will come to 'Fray.'"
Tuesday's (May 22) season finale of "Buffy" ended with
the Slayer, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, falling to her death,
concluding with the haunting image of her tombstone inscribed with
the words, "She saved the world/A lot." After four five
seasons on The WB, the series moves to UPN this fall, remaining
in its Tuesday night timeslot.
